Psychologist

Dr. Larah Maunder completed her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University. In therapy, she works with adolescents and adults with a range of mental health concerns, such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and OCD. Larah provides evidence-based cognitive therapies (e.g., cognitive processing therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy) with her clients. As a health psychologist, she also enjoys working with adults experiencing health-related concerns, such as chronic pain, chronic illness, insomnia, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Larah adopts a trauma-informed, neuroaffirming stance when working with her clients. She enjoys empowering clients to increase their assertiveness skills so that they can become their own best advocates. Larah also provides psychological assessments to older adolescents and adults.

Larah’s PhD research focused on chronic pain and PTSD. She continued pursuing research after finishing her PhD by completing a postdoctoral fellowship at McMaster University. During this fellowship, she researched the impact, prevention and treatment of military sexual trauma, and was part of a research team developing new treatments for PTSD. Larah completed her predoctoral residency at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. There, she completed rotations at the WSIB Mental Health Specialty Clinic, the Schizophrenia Outpatient Service, and the Kidney Urinary Program, where she provided psychotherapy to individuals with end stage renal disease. In addition to St. Joseph’s, she completed her earlier clinical training at various hospitals and community-based treatment centres in Kingston, Ontario. These included Queen’s Psychology Clinic, Queen’s University Sex Therapy Service, Maple Family Health Team, Kids Inclusive, The Chronic Pain Clinic at Hotel Dieu Hospital, an adult ADHD assessment service, and an Operational Stress Injury Clinic that serves Canadian Armed Forces Veterans.

Larah provides psychological services in English.

In her free time, Larah enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, snowboarding, and beach volleyball. When she’s not outside, you can find her reading a good fantasy novel, knitting, or discovering new comedians on YouTube.
