Our Approach
We have strong values that guide what services we offer, what we emphasize as a program, and how we work with one another and our clients at Broadview Psychology.
Our Approach to Treatment
Resilience
We focus on clients’ strengths and resources, and how these enhance their ability to cope and be resilient in the face of stressful experiences and life’s challenges.
Prevention
We believe in early intervention and strive to provide support and skills training to children, parents, individuals and families, to prevent the development or worsening of mental health challenges.
Emotion Focus
We believe that emotions play an important role in our health, well-being, relationships and goal attainment. We help clients to identify, accept, validate, experience, express, regulate, and learn from their emotions.
Family Involvement
We recognize that humans are not isolated and do not live in a vacuum. They influence and are influenced by their environment and relationships. As such, we try to include parents, family members and partners in the treatment process so everyone can learn better ways of coping, connecting and communicating with each other.
Compassion
We seek to listen, understand and validate the experiences of our clients and families. We strive to journey with people from a place of caring, compassion and kindness.
Team Approach
We believe that when working as a team, we benefit from the support and expertise of all members, and can provide better treatment to our clients and their family members. At Broadview, we all participate in weekly individual and group consultation team meetings to ensure that we are providing the most collaborative, effective and coordinated services possible.
Evidence-Based Practice
We use researched and empirically validated treatment approaches. We continue to expand our knowledge of treatments, such as DBT, CBT, CPT, EFT, PE, ACT and mindfulness, through consultation, continuing education and certification. We aim to make treatment decisions to address client needs that are backed by research.
Program Evaluation
We strive to provide effective services and engage in ongoing evaluation and outcome measurement that allows us to determine whether we are being effective with individuals and as a clinic. We are open to feedback from clients and family members as we are always aiming to improve and enhance our services.
Continuing Education
We are dedicated to equipping ourselves with the knowledge and skills to be the best clinical providers possible to help our clients to meet their goals. Consequently, we invest as a team and as individuals in ongoing continuing education to enhance our competence as clinicians.
Contribution to the Community
We care deeply about the mental health of all members of our community and their ability to obtain effective treatment, particularly from public agencies. Consequently, we support the development of clinical skills and knowledge among professionals in other settings by providing training and consultation to hospitals, schools and community mental health programs.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
We strive to be a clinic that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion. We seek to learn about our own, and our clients’ ethnic, racial, cultural, familial, sexual, and gender identities and backgrounds, so that we can be informed, sensitive and respectful to each client. We will aim to identify, validate, and address challenges and barriers to recovery related to discrimination and oppression.
Accessibility of Services
We acknowledge the challenges of obtaining high quality, comprehensive, culturally relevant and accessible treatment. We offer services in four locations to increase our geographical accessibility to a wider range of clients who need in-person services. We are able to provide therapy in English, as well as in other languages including Spanish, Urdu, Hindi, and Farsi. Finally, we try to address financial barriers by offering lower-fee services (e.g. groups, behavioural coaching) and lower-fee treatment with Ph.D. students/residents.
