Common Questions About Our Intake Process
What should I expect during the intake call?
What should I expect following the intake call?
What should I expect during the intake and assessment appointments?
During your intake appointment, you will be informed about our policies and procedures and will provide consent about proceeding. You will then have the chance to share your concerns and why you have decided to seek services. You will also answer questions about your emotional, social, familial and physical health in order for us to get to know you better.
We believe that it is important to do a thorough assessment so that we can determine whether and how we can address your needs and goals. Consequently, the assessment will include the following:
We will meet with you for one to three assessment sessions/interviews.
We will ask you to complete various measures or tests before your first or second appointment in order for us to understand your current functioning and to get a baseline.
We will ask you to provide permission for us to access your health records from previous treatment settings or services so that we can understand your treatment history.
If you are a young adult, adolescent or child, we will ask to meet with a parent, caregiver or family member for one appointment to obtain information about your development, current functioning, and family environment and relationships.
If you are an adult, we may ask to meet with a family member or partner for one appointment as part of the assessment to obtain their perspective about your current functioning and needs, and your family and partner relationships.
If you are seeking couple therapy, you will meet for one session as a couple, and then both of you will take part in individual assessment sessions with the therapist.
If you are seeking only a psychodiagnostic or psychoeducational assessment, your assessment will be longer, and if desired, will result in a report that you may choose to share with family members, physicians, psychiatrists, teachers or other service providers.
What should I expect following the assessment?
If your therapist has decided that your needs exceed their competence, they will provide referrals to another therapist within Broadview or to another program.
