Zahra (she/her) is a registered psychotherapist with the CRPO and completed the CRPO-accredited Bridge to Registration and Employment in Mental Health program (BREM) in August 2023. She holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology and is currently a doctoral candidate. Her research interests are post-traumatic growth and suicide prevention.
With over eight years of hands-on experience, Zahra has provided psychotherapy and psychodiagnostic assessment services to clients facing complex mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, stress, academic difficulties, and relational issues. Her expertise spans across diverse age groups, working with youth, adults, and families from varying cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Zahra is extensively trained in a range of therapeutic modalities, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy – Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy (ST), and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT). Zahra firmly believes in the power of human connection in healing; and strives to build warm relationships with her clients while also cheerleading and coaching them to achieve their hopes and dreams. She honours each client’s unique needs and challenges and works collaboratively with clients and their families in aligning the treatment to their goals.
In addition to her clinical experience, she has worked as a university lecturer and taught psychology to undergraduate students at public and private universities. Zahra is passionate about working with communities. She has worked for several years in promoting positive mental health, increasing access to mental health services, and eradicating stigma by raising awareness and advocating for change.
Zahra is committed to providing mental health care that is anti-oppressive and trauma-informed. As a person of colour and an immigrant herself, she understands the profound impact of cultural and social factors on mental health. She speaks multiple languages and endeavours to empower her clients through a culturally sensitive approach to her practice.
Zahra provides psychotherapy services in English, Hindi and Urdu.
Spending time in nature, drinking coffee, playing with her dog, cooking, reading, and volunteering are some of her favourite things to do in her free time.
