Ph.D STUDENT | TORONTO CLINIC
Erica Rodrigues (she/her) is currently completing her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University under the supervision of Dr. Karen Milligan. Erica’s past research has focused on implementing parent support among mothers in treatment for problematic substance use. Currently, her research interest is exploring emotion dysregulation and experiences of invalidation among adolescents with learning difficulties.
Erica works in a therapeutic context with children and adolescents presenting with a range of mental health difficulties and their families. Erica completed a practicum with Broadview Psychology, where she received training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) for adolescents, DBT Prolonged Exposure to treat trauma symptoms, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).
Before joining Broadview Psychology, Erica received clinical training at The Hospital for Sick Children in the Tics and Tourette Clinic where she conducted psychoeducational assessments with children and adolescents experiencing challenges with attention, learning, and mental health difficulties. This experience has informed her current work, as she considers clients’ cognitive strengths and weaknesses and how these may influence mental health challenges and therapy. She also has experience providing CBT at St. Michael’s Hospital, working with adults presenting with depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress.
Erica believes a good therapeutic relationship is essential. She approaches her clinical work with warmth, compassion, and empathy, and works collaboratively with clients to tailor treatment to meet their goals. She also aims to help clients and their families understand their current strengths and challenges and provides tools and skills to promote desired change in the present and for the future.
Erica provides clinical services in English.
In her free time, Erica loves trying new restaurants in Toronto, creating art (usually with watercolour paints), reading, and playing video games.
