Psychology Resident | TORONTO CLINIC
Amira (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the School and Applied Child Psychology program at Western University. She received her M.A. in School Psychology from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of British Columbia. Currently, her research focuses on exploring newcomer youths’ experience of resilience, as well as investigating interventions that support resilience. She is completing her pre-doctoral residency with the Toronto Area Residency Consortium (TARC) at Broadview Psychology and the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).
Amira has received training in assessment and therapeutic interventions with children and adolescents experiencing difficulties with attention, behaviour, learning, and social-emotional functioning. During her clinical training, she has worked with youth in various settings, including community mental health, school boards, a day treatment program, and a university clinic. Her primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and other evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Amira highly values clients’ lived experiences, and takes a collaborative and strengths-based approach to working with clients and their families.

Outside work, Amira enjoys staying active with her young family, exploring vintage markets, trying new cafes and restaurants, and gardening.
