Virginia Tsekova is a Ph.D. Candidate in Clinical Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). She holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from TMU. She works with individuals experiencing a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and emotion regulation and interpersonal difficulties.
Virginia primarily draws from Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to best meet her clients’ needs.
She recognizes the importance of creating a safe and trusting relationship with her clients. She is committed to providing a warm, accepting, and collaborative environment. She prioritizes understanding each client’s unique context and lived experiences. Her practice is trauma-informed, grounded in anti-oppressive ethics, and acknowledges the impact of systemic oppression on mental health and wellbeing. Virginia strives to provide an affirming space in which clients can explore the aspects of their identity that are important to them (gender, race, sexuality, etc.).
Virginia has completed clinical training at various mental health settings, including St. Michael’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre, North York General Hospital, and private practice. She has provided assessment and treatment services for adults struggling with a range of psychological and emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, and high emotion dysregulation.
Outside of these professional roles, Virginia enjoys cuddling her dog, caring for her many plants, crocheting, and spending time in nature.
