Psychology Resident, Ph.D Candidate
Shirley is currently a Doctoral Candidate in the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Waterloo. She received her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Waterloo and her B.Sc. in Honours Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behaviour with a specialization in mental health from McMaster University. She is currently completing her residency through the Toronto Area Residency Consortium (TARC), where she is providing services at Broadview Psychology and the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB).
Shirley has extensive training in psychoeducational assessment and therapeutic intervention for children, adolescents, and adults across multiple settings including Hamilton Health Sciences at the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre in the Child and Youth Mental Health Outpatient Clinic program, Kitchener Psychology Centre, Waterloo District School Board, and the Centre for Mental Health Research and Treatment at the University of Waterloo.
Shirley has conducted comprehensive psychoeducational and diagnostic assessments for youth across a range of cognitive, learning, behavioural, developmental, and social difficulties. She also has experience providing therapy to clients with a number of concerns including anxiety, mood, and social difficulties. Shirley’s therapeutic orientation involves the integration of evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy along with other approaches such as Emotion-Focussed Therapy, Compassion-Focussed Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and family-focused therapies. She tailors treatment to meet the unique needs of each client.
In her free time, Shirley enjoys being active, travelling, and reading.
